How to measure ID

Measure the pipe, not the old hose
Heat and age make a used hose swell and go out of round. Take your reading across the metal outlet the hose slides onto — that measurement is your ID.

Use vernier calipers
Set the outer jaws across the widest point of the pipe. A tape measure round a curve reads low by a millimetre or two — enough to buy the wrong size.

Take three readings, keep the largest
Rotate 60° between each. If they disagree the pipe is oval; size to the biggest figure so the hose still seals.

Round to the nearest listed bore
Never go up: a bore wider than the fitting will not grip, whatever the hose is made of. If you land between listed sizes take the smaller bore, and secure it with a clip.
Order by ID, always. Every hose on this site is listed by internal diameter. OD is given for clearance only — it changes with wall thickness and ply count, so it is never the ordering size. On reducers, quote both ends, largest first.

What is PTFE braided hose?

An AN6 hose with a PTFE inner tube inside a stainless steel braid. PTFE is chemically inert and essentially impermeable, which makes it the choice for aggressive fuels and anywhere permeation through the hose wall is a problem.

When do I need PTFE rather than rubber-lined?

For E85, methanol and race fuels, for high-pressure fuel injection, and where fuel smell through the hose wall is unacceptable. It is also better for long-term storage, since it does not degrade with age or ethanol content.

Why the bare stainless finish?

Bare stainless braid gives maximum abrasion protection and the traditional look. Bear in mind it is abrasive itself, so it must be properly supported and kept clear of panels, looms and brake lines.

What fittings does it need?

AN6 hose ends designed specifically for PTFE. The olive and collet arrangement differs from rubber-lined AN hose, and using the wrong ends is a common and expensive mistake - the joint will leak or let go. Check your fittings are PTFE-specific before assembling.

How do I cut it?

Wrap the cut area tightly in tape, cut through the tape with a sharp cut-off wheel or proper hose shears, then remove the tape. That stops the braid fraying. Take care not to crush or distort the PTFE liner - a deformed liner will not seal in the fitting.

Is it as flexible as rubber hose?

No, noticeably less. PTFE has a larger minimum bend radius and does not flex as freely, so routing needs more planning and gentler sweeps. Do not force it round a tight corner near a fitting - use an angled hose end instead.
