Rubber Marine Hose is a heavy-duty, fuel-resistant hose designed for marine fuel delivery, engine connections, and onboard fuel transfer systems. Manufactured with a smooth black nitrile rubber inner tube, reinforced with high-strength polyester braids (with an additional wire helix for sizes 25 mm and above), and covered with a synthetic nitrile rubber blend, the hose provides excellent durability, fuel compatibility, and resistance to harsh marine environments. Conforming to BS EN ISO 7840 standards, Rubber Marine Hose is fully approved for marine fuel systems, ensuring safe and reliable performance across a wide range of applications. With an extended temperature range from -40°C to +100°C (peaks up to +120°C), the hose maintains flexibility and integrity under extreme operating conditions.

How to measure ID

Measure the pipe, not the old hose
Heat and age make a used hose swell and go out of round. Take your reading across the metal outlet the hose slides onto — that measurement is your ID.

Use vernier calipers
Set the outer jaws across the widest point of the pipe. A tape measure round a curve reads low by a millimetre or two — enough to buy the wrong size.

Take three readings, keep the largest
Rotate 60° between each. If they disagree the pipe is oval; size to the biggest figure so the hose still seals.

Round to the nearest listed bore
Never go up: a bore wider than the fitting will not grip, whatever the hose is made of. If you land between listed sizes take the smaller bore, and secure it with a clip.
Order by ID, always. Every hose on this site is listed by internal diameter. OD is given for clearance only — it changes with wall thickness and ply count, so it is never the ordering size. On reducers, quote both ends, largest first.

What is it used for?

Marine fuel delivery, engine connections and onboard fuel transfer. It is built to ISO 7840 A1 - the fire-tested, low-permeation grade specified for permanently installed fuel lines on recreational craft.

What size and length do I order?

Order by internal diameter, matched to the outside diameter of the pipe stub or spigot it slides over. Measure the pipe with vernier callipers rather than the old hose, which stretches in service and reads large. Available in internal diameters from 5mm to 51mm, lengths from 1 Metre to 20 Metres (Full Coil). Full coils work out considerably better value per metre than cut lengths.

What standard is it built to?

It is manufactured to ISO 7840. Buying to a recognised standard matters here - it means the construction, pressure rating and performance have been benchmarked rather than simply described.

Is it compatible with E5 and E10 petrol?

Yes - the nitrile-based compound is formulated for modern ethanol-blended fuels as well as diesel and oils. Ethanol attacks unsuitable rubber from the inside, so an older line can look perfectly sound externally while breaking down internally and shedding debris into the fuel system.

Can I use automotive fuel hose on a boat instead?

No, and it is worth being blunt. Automotive hose is not fire tested and permeates far more fuel vapour, which on a boat accumulates in an enclosed bilge rather than dispersing. Insurers and surveyors will pick it up, and it is a genuine safety issue.

How should it be secured?

Two stainless clips at every fuel connection, which is what the standard expects below the waterline or in an engine space. Use 316 stainless rather than plated, and support the hose so it cannot chafe against a bulkhead or engine mount.
