What are stainless steel elbows used for?
They are hard pipe bends that change the direction of a run without using a flexible hose. In intake, boost, coolant and exhaust-adjacent pipework a metal elbow holds its shape under pressure and heat, keeps the bore perfectly round for flow, and gives a durable, clean-looking installation. They are also widely used in marine, agricultural and industrial fluid systems for the same reasons.

What angles and sizes do you stock?
45 degree and 90 degree elbows, in outside diameters from 13mm up to 102mm - fifteen sizes in each angle. Every elbow has 150mm legs on each side, giving 300mm total length, which leaves plenty of material to trim to fit. Order by outside diameter, because that is the dimension your hose or coupler slides over.

What grade of stainless is used?
304 stainless steel, polished. 304 is the standard corrosion-resistant grade for this kind of work - an iron, chromium and nickel alloy that resists rust, coolant, road salt and general weathering without any coating. The polished finish also makes it easy to keep clean, which is why these are popular on visible pipework.

What temperature will they handle?
The rated range is -40C to +220C. That covers coolant, charge air and intake duties comfortably. The limiting factor in most installations is not the elbow itself but the silicone or rubber hose you connect it with, so check the hose rating too - our standard silicone runs to +250C, which is well within the elbow's capability.

Stainless or aluminium - which should I choose?
Stainless is stronger, more corrosion resistant and takes a better polish; aluminium is lighter, cheaper and sheds heat faster. For coolant, marine and anywhere exposed to salt, stainless is the safer choice. For charge air pipework where weight and heat rejection matter, many people prefer aluminium. We stock both, in matching size ranges, so you can mix them in one system.

Can I cut the legs down?
Yes. Cut with a fine-tooth blade or an abrasive cut-off wheel, then deburr both inside and outside - a sharp internal edge will score the hose bore and can start a leak. Leave at least 25-30mm of straight leg beyond the bend for the hose and clip to seat on. If you regularly need short legs, tell us the dimensions and we can quote a made-to-order part.
