Rubber Air Line Hose is a heavy-duty, flexible hose designed for compressed air delivery in workshops, construction sites, and industrial environments. Constructed with a black PVC and liquid rubber blended inner tube, reinforced with triple polyester yarn, and finished with a durable outer layer of the same composite material, the hose combines strength, flexibility, and long service life. Conforming to ISO 5774:2016 Type B standards, it provides a secure and stable air supply under pressure while resisting abrasion, weathering, and mechanical stress. With an operating temperature range from -20°C to +80°C (short-term peaks up to +85°C), Rubber Air Line Hose is well suited for demanding pneumatic applications.

How to measure ID

Measure the pipe, not the old hose
Heat and age make a used hose swell and go out of round. Take your reading across the metal outlet the hose slides onto — that measurement is your ID.

Use vernier calipers
Set the outer jaws across the widest point of the pipe. A tape measure round a curve reads low by a millimetre or two — enough to buy the wrong size.

Take three readings, keep the largest
Rotate 60° between each. If they disagree the pipe is oval; size to the biggest figure so the hose still seals.

Round to the nearest listed bore
Never go up: a bore wider than the fitting will not grip, whatever the hose is made of. If you land between listed sizes take the smaller bore, and secure it with a clip.
Order by ID, always. Every hose on this site is listed by internal diameter. OD is given for clearance only — it changes with wall thickness and ply count, so it is never the ordering size. On reducers, quote both ends, largest first.

What is it used for?

Compressed air delivery in workshops, on site and in industrial environments - tool feeds, tyre lines and main air runs.

What size and length do I order?

Order by internal diameter, matched to the outside diameter of the pipe stub or spigot it slides over. Measure the pipe with vernier callipers rather than the old hose, which stretches in service and reads large. Available in internal diameters from 6mm to 19mm, lengths from 1 Metre to 60 Metres (Full Coil). Full coils work out considerably better value per metre than cut lengths.

What standard is it built to?

It is manufactured to BS5118/2. Buying to a recognised standard matters here - it means the construction, pressure rating and performance have been benchmarked rather than simply described.

Can I use it for fuel or oil?

No - EPDM and general-purpose rubber have poor resistance to hydrocarbons and will soften, swell and eventually fail. For fuel and oil use our SAE J30 R6 rubber hose or a fluorosilicone-lined silicone hose.

Does hose diameter affect tool performance?

Considerably. Air tools are rated at a given pressure and flow at the tool, not at the compressor. Too narrow a hose, or too long a run, causes a pressure drop that leaves an impact gun feeling gutless even though the gauge looks fine. Go up a hose size before blaming the compressor.

How should it be secured?

Proper hose clips, one at each end, positioned squarely over the barb or spigot. Support long runs with rubber-lined P-clips so the hose cannot chafe against a bracket, panel or wiring loom, and keep it clear of exhaust components.
