45mm Rotary Craft Cutter

Changeable Blade Easy To Use Ergonomic Handle

Why use a proper hose cutter?

Because a clean square cut is what makes a joint seal. A knife wanders on reinforced hose and leaves an angled or ragged edge; a hacksaw drags the reinforcement plies and frays them badly. A cutter shears through in one action.

What can it cut?

Silicone, rubber and PVC hose and soft plastic tube up to its rated outside diameter. It is not for metal pipe, the steel helix in wire reinforced hose, or braided stainless - use a pipe cutter or cut-off wheel for those.

How do I cut wire reinforced hose?

Cut the wall between the helix coils with a sharp blade, then cut the wire with side cutters, and tape or dress the exposed wire end so it cannot work through the wall or catch a hand. A hose cutter will not get through the steel helix.

How do I get a square cut?

Mark the cut line right round the hose first, seat the hose fully in the jaw so it is square to the blade, and cut in one decisive action rather than sawing. On larger bores a ratchet cutter is much easier to keep square.

Do the blades dull with use?

Yes, particularly on reinforced hose. A dull blade crushes rather than shears, which produces a ragged end. If cuts start coming out uneven, the blade is the reason. Keep the pivot clean and lightly oiled and the tool lasts considerably longer.

Can I use scissors or a knife instead?

For thin unreinforced tube, a sharp blade is fine. For anything reinforced, a knife wanders through the plies and leaves an angled end that is difficult to seal. If you cut more than a couple of lengths, the cutter pays for itself in fewer weeping joints.
