What rubber hoses do you stock?

How do I pick the right rubber hose?

Start with the medium. Coolant and hot water - EPDM to SAE J20 R3. Fuel and oil - nitrile to SAE J30 R6. Compressed air - BS5118/2 airline hose. Vacuum and servo - BSAU110. LPG - ISO 3821. Marine fuel - ISO 7840 A1. The materials are not interchangeable: EPDM fails in fuel, and fuel hose is wrong for coolant.

Why choose rubber over silicone?

Cost, originality and fuel compatibility. Rubber is the like-for-like replacement on a standard vehicle and matches the original look and feel. Nitrile rubber also handles fuel and oil, where standard silicone cannot. Silicone wins on temperature and service life - it does not perish with age - but it costs more and is not fuel compatible unless fluorolined.

What temperature will rubber hose take?

It varies by type. EPDM coolant hose runs -30C to +120C. Fuel and oil hoses are rated for automotive engine bay service. None of it approaches silicone's +250C. If your application runs hot, or the hose sits close to a turbo or exhaust, silicone is the more realistic material. Tell us the temperature and we will confirm.

Why do rubber hoses fail?

Age, heat cycling, ozone and, in the case of fuel hose, ethanol. The classic signs are a hose that feels hard and brittle or spongy and swollen when squeezed, surface cracking when flexed, and staining or crusty residue around the clips. Rubber has a genuine service life, so replace on condition rather than waiting for a failure.

Are your fuel hoses E5 and E10 compatible?

Yes - the nitrile-based fuel hoses are formulated for modern ethanol-blended fuels as well as diesel and oils. This is important on older vehicles: ethanol attacks unsuitable rubber from the inside, so a line can look perfectly sound externally while breaking down internally and shedding debris into the fuel system.
