How to measure ID

Measure the pipe, not the old hose

Heat and age make a used hose swell and go out of round. Take your reading across the metal outlet the hose slides onto — that measurement is your ID.

Use vernier calipers

Set the outer jaws across the widest point of the pipe. A tape measure round a curve reads low by a millimetre or two — enough to buy the wrong size.

Take three readings, keep the largest

Rotate 60° between each. If they disagree the pipe is oval; size to the biggest figure so the hose still seals.

Round to the nearest listed bore

Never go up: a bore wider than the fitting will not grip, whatever the hose is made of. If you land between listed sizes take the smaller bore, and secure it with a clip.

Order by ID, always. Every hose on this site is listed by internal diameter. OD is given for clearance only — it changes with wall thickness and ply count, so it is never the ordering size. On reducers, quote both ends, largest first.

What is it used for?

Draining down and flushing heating and plumbing systems, and hot water discharge generally. It is light and very manoeuvrable, which is what you want for a hose that gets dragged out, used and coiled up again.

What size and length do I order?

12mm internal diameter, 19mm outside diameter, with a 3.5mm wall. Order by the metre from 1 to 30 metres, or take the 100 metre full coil.

What is it made from?

Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), inner and outer wall, manufactured by HosesUK. TPU gives strength with genuine flexibility and stands up to repeated handling far better than a cheap PVC drain hose.

What is it rated for?

5 bar working pressure, 15 bar burst, -20C to +100C, with a 36mm minimum bend radius. The +100C rating is the important one here - this is made for hot discharge, which is exactly where a garden hose fails.

Is it reinforced?

No - it is unreinforced by design. That is what keeps it light and manoeuvrable for temporary installations. It also means you should not run it under suction or let it kink in a tight corner.

What colours are available?

Green and orange. On a site or in an occupied house, the orange is worth having - a hose running across a floor is a trip hazard that is very easy to miss.
