Which straight hose do I need?
For general coolant, air and water, the 1 metre straight in 6mm to 152mm. For smaller heater and coolant circuits where flexibility matters, the 2 ply hose in 6mm to 25mm. For anything that must resist collapse under vacuum or bend tightly, the SuperFlex wire reinforced in 6mm to 51mm. For fuel or oil, the Fuel & Oil straight. For a period look, the Classic Wrap.

What is the SuperFlex wire reinforced hose for?
It has an embedded steel wire helix in addition to the polyester braid, so it holds its bore under vacuum and bends much more tightly without kinking. Use it on the suction side of a pump, on long lower radiator hoses that can collapse as the pump pulls, and anywhere the routing is tighter than plain hose will allow.

Why is the 2 ply hose only 2 ply?
Ply count is matched to bore and duty. In 6mm to 25mm bores, two plies of polyester braid give ample pressure capability - 18 to 24 bar - while keeping the hose flexible enough to route round a bulkhead. A 4-ply hose in a 10mm bore would be stiff and awkward. Larger bores in our range step up to 3 and 4 ply.

What temperature and pressure do they handle?
The standard silicone range runs -50C to +250C to SAE J20 R3, and the 2 ply hose is rated -30C to +200C at 18 to 24 bar. That is a very large margin over what a normal cooling system asks - typically 1 to 1.5 bar and under 120C - which is why silicone so comfortably outlasts the rubber it replaces.

Can I use these for fuel or oil?
Only the Fuel & Oil straight and the Classic Wrapped straight, both of which have a fluorosilicone liner built to SAE J30 R6. The plain, 2 ply and SuperFlex hoses are standard silicone and will swell and degrade in contact with petrol, diesel or oil. If in doubt about what is going through the line, ask us before ordering.

Can I bend a straight hose round a corner?
Only gently. Every straight hose has a minimum bend radius and the larger the bore the larger it is - force it tighter and the bore kinks, restricting flow and creating a stress point. For any real change of direction use a moulded elbow. If you need both flexibility and a tight bend, the SuperFlex wire reinforced hose is the answer.
