Polyurethane PU Ducting

Polyurethane (PU) Lightweight Ducting is the embodiment of advanced air handling technology combined with exceptional durability. Engineered to provide unparalleled performance in a lightweight package, this ducting solution redefines efficiency and versatility for a wide range of applications.

Crafted with precision and innovation, our Polyurethane Lightweight Ducting boasts a construction that's both robust and remarkably lightweight. This unique combination makes it an ideal choice for situations where both agility and durability are paramount.

What is polyurethane ducting used for?

It is a lightweight, highly flexible and abrasion-resistant duct for air, dust and light material transfer - workshop dust extraction, woodworking and CNC swarf removal, fume and vapour extraction, agricultural grain and feed handling, and general industrial ventilation. Its main advantage over PVC ducting is that it stands up to abrasive material passing through it far better.

What sizes and lengths do you stock?

Internal diameters from 38mm up to 300mm across 12 sizes, in lengths from 1 metre to 20 metres. That covers everything from a small extractor on a bench tool up to a main run on an industrial system. Order by internal diameter to match the spigot or machine outlet it will connect to.

    What is it rated for?

-40C to +90C, manufactured to DIN 4102-B1, which is a flame-retardancy classification for building materials. It has a left-hand spiral wire helix embedded in the wall, which gives it crush and vacuum resistance so it will not collapse on the suction side of a fan or extractor.

How does it compare with PVC ducting?

Polyurethane is much more abrasion resistant, which matters enormously if you are moving dust, chips, grit or grain - PVC wears through from the inside where the material hits the bends. Polyurethane is also lighter and more flexible. PVC is cheaper and perfectly adequate for clean air. If solids are passing through the duct, buy polyurethane.

How do I join two lengths together?

Use our ABS male connectors, available in 50mm to 200mm outside diameter in black, white, red and blue. For joining two different sizes, the reducing connectors cover 20 pairings from 65mm to 50mm up to 200mm to 150mm. Slide the ducting over the connector and secure with a worm drive clip or a ducting clamp at each end.

How do I cut it to length?

Cut the polyurethane between the helix coils with a sharp knife, then cut the wire itself with side cutters, and tape or dress the cut wire end so it cannot work through the wall or catch anyone's hand. Leave a clean square end with enough material beyond the last coil for the connector and clip to seat on.
