Metal Elbows

Our metal elbows cover both of the materials that matter for hard pipework: T6063 aluminium and polished 304 stainless steel. Between them you can specify a bend for almost any environment, in 45°, 90°, 135° and 180° angles and outside diameters from 13mm to 102mm.

Aluminium is the lighter option and the easier one to work with. T6063 resists corrosion without a coating, cuts and welds cleanly, and at a 1.6mm wall it is more than strong enough for charge pipework and intake systems while saving meaningful weight over steel. Beaded ends give hoses and clamps a positive grip.

Stainless steel 304 is the choice where the environment is harsher. The chromium-nickel alloy holds up to salt, chemicals and sustained high temperatures far better than aluminium, and the polished finish leaves a smooth, easily cleaned surface that resists pitting. That makes it the right specification for marine installations, exhaust and downpipe work, chemical handling and food-grade pipework where hygiene and washdown matter.

Choose aluminium where weight and cost lead, and stainless where corrosion resistance, temperature or cleanliness lead. Match the elbow's outside diameter to your hose's internal diameter and secure the joint with a suitably rated hose clamp.

What metal elbows do you stock?
T6063 aluminium elbows in 45, 90, 135 and 180 degrees from 13mm to 102mm outside diameter, and polished 304 stainless elbows in 45 and 90 degrees from 13mm to 102mm. Both materials in one place, so you can pick by application rather than by what happens to be available.

Aluminium or stainless?
Aluminium is lighter, cheaper and sheds heat faster, which makes it the usual choice for intercooler and intake pipework. Stainless is stronger, far more resistant to salt and takes a better polish, so it suits marine work and visible show pipework. Both are rated -40C to +220C and can be mixed in one system.

What leg lengths do they have?
The aluminium 45 and 90 degree elbows have 150mm legs, 300mm total; the 135 and 180 degree have 100mm legs, 200mm total. The stainless 45 and 90 degree elbows have 150mm legs, 300mm total. All leave plenty to trim - just keep at least 25-30mm of straight leg beyond the bend for the clamp.

Are the ends beaded?
The aluminium elbows are formed with a bead at each end, which gives the clamp a mechanical stop so the hose cannot slide off under boost. That makes them the right choice for pressurised charge air pipework, where an unbeaded joint can creep and let go at exactly the wrong moment.

How do I size them?
Order by outside diameter, because that is what the hose or coupler slides over - match it to the internal diameter of the silicone or rubber hose. Measure with vernier callipers rather than a tape; a millimetre matters, and a joint that is a size out will not seal however hard you clamp it.

Can I cut and weld them?
Yes. Cut with a pipe cutter or fine-tooth blade and deburr inside and out so the edge cannot score the hose bore. Both T6063 and 304 TIG weld well - purge stainless for a clean root. On beaded aluminium, cut from the plain middle section only, never near the bead.
