What do you stock for automotive work?
Effectively everything between the engine and the pipework: silicone hose in straights, elbows, reducers, couplers and continuous coil; rubber radiator, heater, fuel and vacuum hose; aluminium and stainless hard pipe, elbows and joiners; hose clips and T-bolt clamps; air filters and heat shields; plus van lining carpet, rubber matting and workshop tools. If it carries coolant, air, fuel or oil on a vehicle, we have it.

Should I use silicone or rubber on my car?
Rubber is the like-for-like replacement - cheaper, correct for a standard vehicle, and it matches the original look. Silicone is the upgrade: it handles far higher temperatures, does not perish or harden with age, and comes in colours. If the hose is somewhere awkward to reach, or the car runs hot, or you are building rather than repairing, silicone is worth paying for once.

Can I use silicone hose for fuel or oil?
Not standard silicone - it swells and breaks down in contact with petrol, diesel and oil. You need our Fuel & Oil range, which has a fluorosilicone inner liner built to SAE J30 R6 and handles E5 and E10 pump fuel. This catches people out most often on breather and catch-can lines, which carry oil mist even though nothing liquid is obviously flowing.

How do I measure for the right size hose?
Order by internal diameter, matched to the outside diameter of the metal pipe or stub the hose slides onto. Measure the pipe itself with vernier callipers - not the old hose, which will have stretched in service and will read large. If the two ends you are joining are different sizes, you need a reducer rather than a straight hose.

What clips should I use?
Stainless worm drive clips for coolant and general work. T-bolt clamps for intercooler, turbo and any boosted pipework, because they apply even pressure right round the joint and hold tension through heat cycling far better. Mini clips for small-bore fuel and vacuum lines. Buy W4 stainless rather than W1 zinc for anything in an engine bay.
