Rubber Wire Reinforced Hose is a heavy-duty suction and delivery hose designed for demanding industrial, agricultural, and commercial fluid handling applications. Constructed with a smooth black synthetic SBR rubber inner tube, reinforced with two-ply fabric cords and a high-strength embedded steel wire spiral, and finished with a smooth SBR rubber outer cover, the hose offers excellent durability, crush resistance, and flexibility. Conforming to SAE J20R3 standards, it provides reliable performance in both suction and pressure service. With an operating temperature range from -20°C to +80°C (short-term peaks up to +85°C), Rubber Wire Reinforced Hose is suitable for water, slurry, light chemicals, and general fluid transfer in tough environments.

Key Features:

  • Inner Layer: Black smooth synthetic SBR rubber for strength and fluid compatibility.

  • Reinforcement: Two-ply fabric cords with embedded steel wire spiral for suction and pressure stability.

  • Outer Layer: Black smooth synthetic SBR rubber for abrasion, weather, and ozone resistance.

  • Operating Temperature: -20°C to +80°C (peak +85°C).

  • Working Pressure: 10 bar across all sizes.

  • Burst Pressure: 30 bar (3:1 safety factor).

  • Internal Diameter Range: 13 mm to 51 mm.

  • Wall Thickness: 5 mm to 6 mm depending on size.

  • Bending Radius: 144 mm to 378 mm depending on diameter.

  • Standard: SAE J20R3 compliant.

The embedded steel wire helix provides superior structural integrity, preventing collapse under suction and maintaining dimensional stability under pressure. The fabric reinforcement adds strength without compromising flexibility, while the smooth bore supports efficient fluid transfer. The outer SBR rubber cover delivers excellent resistance to abrasion, ozone, and weathering, making the hose highly durable even in outdoor and heavy-duty working conditions. With a burst rating three times higher than its working pressure, it ensures a secure margin of safety for demanding operations.

Applications include suction and discharge of water, light chemicals, slurry, and general industrial fluids, as well as agricultural irrigation and construction site pumping. Rubber Wire Reinforced Hose is a versatile and reliable solution where flexibility, strength, and crush resistance are required in suction and delivery operations.

How to measure ID

ID OD wall reinforcement plies ID = bore · OD = ID + (2 × wall)
1
Measure the pipe, not the old hose
Heat and age make a used hose swell and go out of round. Take your reading across the metal outlet the hose slides onto — that measurement is your ID.
2
Use vernier calipers
Set the outer jaws across the widest point of the pipe. A tape measure round a curve reads low by a millimetre or two — enough to buy the wrong size.
3
Take three readings, keep the largest
Rotate 60° between each. If they disagree the pipe is oval; size to the biggest figure so the hose still seals.
4
Round to the nearest listed bore
Never go up: a bore wider than the fitting will not grip, whatever the hose is made of. If you land between listed sizes take the smaller bore, and secure it with a clip.
Order by ID, always. Every hose on this site is listed by internal diameter. OD is given for clearance only — it changes with wall thickness and ply count, so it is never the ordering size. On reducers, quote both ends, largest first.

What is it used for?

Coolant transfer in automotive, marine, agricultural and industrial engines - a smooth internal bore for efficient flow with a reinforced wall.

What size and length do I order?

Order by internal diameter, matched to the outside diameter of the pipe stub or spigot it slides over. Measure the pipe with vernier callipers rather than the old hose, which stretches in service and reads large. Available in internal diameters from 13mm to 51mm, lengths from 1 Metre to 20 Metres (Full Coil). Full coils work out considerably better value per metre than cut lengths.

What standard is it built to?

It is manufactured to SAE J20 R3. Buying to a recognised standard matters here - it means the construction, pressure rating and performance have been benchmarked rather than simply described.

Can I use it for fuel or oil?

No - EPDM and general-purpose rubber have poor resistance to hydrocarbons and will soften, swell and eventually fail. For fuel and oil use our SAE J30 R6 rubber hose or a fluorosilicone-lined silicone hose.

How do I know when it needs replacing?

Squeeze it. Hard and brittle, or spongy and swollen, both mean it is done. Look for surface cracking when you flex it and crusty residue or staining round the clips, which indicates seepage. Replace on condition rather than waiting for a failure.

How should it be secured?

Proper hose clips, one at each end, positioned squarely over the barb or spigot. Support long runs with rubber-lined P-clips so the hose cannot chafe against a bracket, panel or wiring loom, and keep it clear of exhaust components.
