PVC Wire Reinforced Hose is a heavy-duty, flexible suction and delivery hose designed for demanding fluid transfer applications in industrial, agricultural, and commercial environments. Manufactured with a smooth bore PVC inner layer, reinforced by a high-strength galvanized steel wire helix, and protected with a PVC outer wall, the hose combines flexibility with excellent crush and kink resistance. The clear PVC construction allows for easy flow monitoring, while the steel spiral reinforcement provides structural stability under both suction and positive pressure. Built in compliance with BS EN 10324-2005, PVC wire reinforced clear hose is suitable for water, slurry, granules, light chemicals, and fuel/oil transfer under medium duty service. With an operating temperature range from -10°C to +65°C (short-term +70°C), it ensures reliable all-round performance in pumping, drainage, and industrial handling systems.

How to measure ID

Measure the pipe, not the old hose
Heat and age make a used hose swell and go out of round. Take your reading across the metal outlet the hose slides onto — that measurement is your ID.

Use vernier calipers
Set the outer jaws across the widest point of the pipe. A tape measure round a curve reads low by a millimetre or two — enough to buy the wrong size.

Take three readings, keep the largest
Rotate 60° between each. If they disagree the pipe is oval; size to the biggest figure so the hose still seals.

Round to the nearest listed bore
Never go up: a bore wider than the fitting will not grip, whatever the hose is made of. If you land between listed sizes take the smaller bore, and secure it with a clip.
Order by ID, always. Every hose on this site is listed by internal diameter. OD is given for clearance only — it changes with wall thickness and ply count, so it is never the ordering size. On reducers, quote both ends, largest first.

What is it used for?

Heavy-duty suction and delivery - water transfer, tanker and drum emptying, workshop extraction, pond and irrigation pumping. The steel helix means it works on both sides of a pump.

What sizes and lengths do you supply?

Available in internal diameters from 10mm to 51mm, lengths from 1 Metre to 50 Metres (Full Coil). Order by internal diameter to match the outside diameter of the barb or spigot it pushes onto. Full coils work out considerably better value per metre than cut lengths.

What pressure and temperature is it rated for?

Working pressure runs from 12 bar on the smallest bore down to 3 bar on the largest, with burst pressure from 36 bar down to 9 bar across the 10mm to 51mm range. The operating range is -10C to +65C, built to BS6066. PVC also stiffens noticeably in cold weather, so uncoil it gently on a frosty morning rather than pulling it straight.

Can I use it on the suction side of a pump?

Yes - that is what the embedded steel helix is for. It holds the bore open under negative pressure, so it works on both the suction and discharge sides. This is the key difference between it and layflat hose, which collapses immediately under suction.

Is it safe for drinking water or food use?

No - this is a general-purpose industrial hose and is not certified for potable water or food contact. If you need a certified food-grade or potable hose, tell us the application and we will point you at an appropriately certified product.

How do I connect it?

Push it fully onto the barb or spigot - warming the end in hot water makes larger sizes far easier - and secure with a stainless worm drive clip. On higher-pressure runs, two clips at right angles give a better grip. Cut the hose square so it seats evenly.
